While physical separation from the means of production is possible for some "laborers", I wonder if tech industries will fare any better than traditional on-site forms of labor once the smoke clears, and what that means for the idea that we live in something other/worse than capitalism.

All of us, especially those of us working with privilege from the safety of our homes, need to be fighting for the safety & finances of the workers out in the world - on the front lines - medical, food service, delivery, warehouse, transportation, childcare, janitorial, first responders... Their battles are happening every day & we need to listen to their demands & keep the pressure on.

Workers are filling trains in urban centers so that they can keep life moving. Class is apparent in every action and transaction. Class is going to be apparent in the illnesses and deaths of COVID-19.

precisely! there is though a potentially dangerous "people with privilege fighting for people without privilege" mentality in this thinking. not sure how to formulate the right response but "we lucky must help the unlucky" raises some alarm bells!

yeah. i hear you.

i don't mean to be paternalistic. i am speaking in solidarity. I think my words "especially those of us" was a bad note.

so many workers are organizing to save lives. some are getting press. some are getting results. some are getting fired.

i am guessing that most people in these fields are toiling in fear for their livelihood, health and millions even risk of deportation. that means MOST are not organizing or making demands.

jeff & i are paying attention to the calls coming from the workers we see & hear to boycott, protest, speak out. we stand with them.

(also, would love to read more about why the words acknowledging privilege rings alarm bells. looking forward to your blogpost about another way to frame/talk about these issues. i am listening. )
